Ian Falcon Bentley

I was born in 1953 in South Africa during the darkest days of the Apartheid era. Brought up to question authority and never to take things at face value … I have instinctively challenged ‘conventional wisdom’ on almost every answer I’ve ever received.

I could have become a famous artist ... but I had a strong social conscience. As a young white South African I wanted to contribute towards a peaceful future for my racially-polarized country.

Evolutionary change offered more hope than a bloody revolution and my mission became to persuade the white minority to accept change as a positive and beneficial thing.

Eventually I became a political strategist and campaign organiser for the fledgling Progressive Federal Party. The PFP was a ‘liberal democratic’ party by world standards … but was branded by the Apartheid regime as extremely left-wing, radical, and with ‘communistic tendencies’.

In 1991, as a non-racial multi-party democracy loomed closer, I shifted focus from party politics to growing democracy. I developed training courses on election campaign management.

By 1993 the Rainbow Nation was inevitable and I joined the National Peace Accord structures. Thereafter, having honed my skills by resolving disputes developing consensus, and building relationships between bitter former enemies … I focused my energies on conflict transformation.

In 2004, with 2 colleagues I launched Safrika Development Services specializing in the development of innovative integrated social crime prevention models.

Over the past two years I have come to realize my true calling in life is as an innovator and visionary. I know my ideas CAN help to grow Africa and improve the lot of her people.
